Four-Week Lockdown Announced in England

As coronavirus keeps spreading around the world, countries are getting back into the lockdown system. The prime minister of England, Boris Johnson has announced a new four-week lockdown across England to try to keep the pandemic under control. Under new restrictions, it has decided to close pubs, restaurants, gyms, and non-essential shops for 4 weeks starting from the upcoming Thursday, meanwhile, schools, colleges, and universities can stay open.

Mr Johnson said: “Christmas is going to be different this year, perhaps very different, but it’s my sincere hope and belief that by taking tough action now we can allow families across the country to be together.”

He also added that he was ‘’truly sorry’’ for the impact of the pandemic on businesses, but the furlough system paying employees 80% of their wages will be expanded through November. Mr. Johnson mentioned that hospitals that are in the south-west of England, where cases are among the lowest in the country, might soon run out of capacity in weeks. ‘’ Doctors and nurses would be forced which patients to treat, who would get oxygen and who wouldn’t, who would live and who would die’’, Primer Minister said.

US Elections 2020: Set Your Reminders

Tomorrow, on 3 November, Americans will head to the polls to decide the fate of the country and send either Joe Biden or Donald Trump to the White House. For now, Joe Biden, who is best known as Barack Obama’s vice-president, is ahead in national polls with 52%.

According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal: “Democrat Joe Biden maintains his double-digit national lead over Republican President Donald Trump, with most of the voters not being satisfied with the President’s handling of the coronavirus. Biden is ahead of Trump nationally with 52% to 42%, in what has been a remarkably stable race over the course of a tumultuous year in American politics.”

For the time being what we are sure of is that Biden is favourite in Vermont and Virginia, North Carolina; Ohio; while Trump keeps his leadership in South Carolina, Indiana and Kentucky, West Virginia, Florida and of course, Pennsylvania.

Set your reminders for 7 p.m. EST on November 3 – that’s 5.30 a.m. IST on November 4 – for the first US election results from any state to drop.
